Bullmastiffs can have a stubborn streak, and therefore they need proper socialization and obedience training. The standard penalizes unmotivated aggression and disobedience, and these traits must be dealt with in puppyhood. The Bullmastiff appeared in 1924 in England, when a Bulldog was crossed with a Mastiff.
