Bullmastiffs - Puppies - Breed Origin
Bullmastiffs combine the bloods of the two ancient British breeds: the Bulldog and the Mastiff. The breed was developed for a special purpose and was known as "the gamekeeper's night dog." At the end of the 19th century, the job of the gamekeeper became really dangerous, as the poachers would rather kill the gamekeeper than be killed themselves. Poaching carried the death penalty.
The ideal night dog that was meant to help the gamekeeper in his work had to be more agile and swifter than the Mastiff and as aggressive and determined as the Bulldog. Consequently, the Bullmastiff is forty percent of Bulldog and sixty percent of Mastiff. The Bullmastiff had to be strong enough to tackle one or a few armed poachers and obedient enough to be easily handled by its master.
The Bullmastiff of the present day an excellent guard and defense dog, friendly, obedient, is not inclined to be dominative in the family. They can serve as police and army dogs as well. Bullmastiffs are wonderful pets and companion dogs. Bullmastiffs - Puppies - Maintenance
The Bullmastiff is a rather big dog. On the one hand, it needs daily exercise to be in good condition. On the other hand, the Bullmastiff is not a high-energy dog. Walks on leash or short romps can meet the needs of Bullmastiffs.
